The first home of The Brian Mason
Show, WSM-FM in 1980 |
The Brian Mason Show began playing Contemporary Christian
music on May 4, 1980. During these 28+ years, we have enjoyed over 1400 shows and thousands of
guests. It has become a Sunday morning staple in Nashville radio.
The program started as a half hour show on WSM-FM, which, at the time played
mainstream, adult contemporary music. |
|
After a few months, due to listener response, the
show extended to 1 hour; 8-9 am. In February 1983, WSM-FM's format was changed and

Show found itself at a new home...
WLAC-FM. This relationship continued for the next 15
years until a format change moved the show once again in February of 1998. The new home
for The Brian Mason Show
is
Mix 92.9 in Nashville. |

Before the Sunday
morning Christian music show, I worked in radio and TV. In fact, my
first job was at a hospital in my home town of Hialeah, Florida. Hialeah
Hospital provided a closed-circuit TV station to its patients. I was 16
and a broadcaster! |
|
 |
This job held me thru most of high
school. It was great learning TV
lighting, camera and video tape operation, and basic announcing.
Somewhere, I still have some of those old tapes. They keep me humble! |
Next came college! I went to Freed-Hardeman in
west Tennessee. My first radio station was WFHC-FM (right picture).
My second year of college was in Montgomery
Alabama. I worked in radio and TV there.

Me at the controls at WLAC (1975) |
When I came to Nashville in 1973, my
first radio job was at WLAC. It's a 50,000 watt monster which gets into
about 38 states at night. I found many old high school friends listening
from Miami while on
the air there at night.
I also had the chance to meet and work with some
pretty neat people while at WLAC.

| Since beginning the Sunday morning
radio show in 1980, I've been involved in several TV shows as well. Click any

| In 1987, I began doing a show
on channel 39 in Murfreesboro. The show was "Crosstracks".
Here's a shot with the group Whiteheart. We're
celebrating the release of their new album (Yes, VINYL!), "Don't
Wait For The Movie". Pictured front, l-r: Mark
Gersmehl, Chris McHugh, me, Rick Florian, and Gordon
Kennedy. Back row: Tommy Sims and Billy Smiley. |
 |
| The next show started in
December, 1990 on Channel 66. It was fun to do a 4-hour radio
show on Sunday from 6 to 10, an hour break, then a live 2-hour
TV show. |
